Winning Strategy - Build the Best Army

The best army composition in Command An Army, why formations decide fights, and how to spend gold on the few units that carry waves — winning strategy end to end.

Quick Answer: What Is the Best Strategy?

Frontline tanks, backline damage, one healer — then pour every coin into raising that core instead of buying new unit types. The armies that climb the Command An Army leaderboards run a Golem or Titan wall in front, Wizards and Crossbows behind it, a Healer in the middle, and spend the rest on star levels. A five-unit core at high stars beats a fifteen-unit crowd almost every time.

The Core Composition

Formations Decide Fights

Where units stand matters as much as which units you field. Melee units belong directly in the enemy wave's path; ranged units spread out behind them so splash damage cannot clip the whole backline at once; the Healer sits protected in the middle, close enough to reach both flanks. A compact wall usually outperforms a long thin line because concentrated healing and boosts cover everyone. The formations page breaks down the layouts that hold longest against each wave type.

💡 After a lost push, move one unit before buying one — half of "weak army" problems are actually spacing problems.

Upgrade One Army, Not Five

Every unit can be raised through star levels, and the endgame systems — evolution, ascension and mastery — multiply a maxed core even further. The catch is cost: spreading gold across many unit families leaves all of them stuck at low stars, and a stuck army stops pushing distance. Pick your five-slot core early, push its star limit as far as cash allows, and only then consider swapping a slot. The star limit page tracks what each level costs and unlocks.

Climbing the Leaderboards

Distance is the scoreboard in Command An Army: every attack pushes your army into harder waves, and the farther it gets, the more cash and bragging rights you earn. Treat each run as information — the wave that broke you tells you the exact slot to upgrade next. Between pushes, check the update log for balance changes and new units; a patch can quietly reshuffle the tier list, and leaderboard players adapt first.
